VIN Sticker Report

Help

How it works

Enter a VIN and get one report: the window sticker, recalls, crash ratings, fuel economy and owner complaints.

Original sticker

The automaker's own copy where one is available, or a recreated sticker built from public records for the rest.

Recalls and safety

Official NHTSA recalls, crash ratings, investigations and owner complaints for the model.

Fuel economy

EPA figures from FuelEconomy.gov for the engine, with the range when a VIN doesn't pin down one version.

Paste up to 25 VINs on the compare page and see them side by side, then download a CSV.

Questions

Where do I find the VIN?

Look at the driver's side of the dashboard through the windshield, or on the door-jamb label. It's also on the title, registration and insurance card.

What does a window sticker show?

The original price, factory options, fuel economy, safety ratings and where the car was built. It's useful for checking a used car's trim and options against the listing.

Why isn't there a sticker for my car?

Automakers decide what they publish, and recent model years are the most likely to be on file. When there's no copy, your report builds a recreated sticker from public records. It's a best effort, and it can't show the original price or installed options.

Why do older cars show different crash ratings?

NHTSA rated cars before model year 2011 per seat, with no overall star. The report shows those ratings and says which scale they're on. The two scales don't compare.

Do you store my VIN?

No. Your browser asks NHTSA directly, and your shortlist stays on your own device. See our privacy page.
